Ovulation tests: types

Have you ever known the possible similarities between home pregnancy tests and ovulation tests? They are similar in the sense that they can be conducted in the privacy of one's room. You need not go to the doctor or take time to fix an appointment with him and the amount of time you will spend on doing the formalities can be easily substituted for doing the test all by yourself.

This can also save you from embarrassment as your instinct might put pressure on you to go visit the doctor and the results would just be the opposite to what you might have anticipated. An ovulation test tells a woman when it the best time to conceive. While it might be easy for some women to get pregnant, for the others it takes time and effort.

The market provides two main types of ovulation tests: ovulation test strips and midstream ovulation tests. An ovulation test kit comes with a test strip, a container and a dropper. Before opening the kit store it in room temperature. After you have opened the kit, look out for the instructions card. Read it as many times as possible until you understand the steps. Start the steps by taking the container for collecting the urine.

Place the test strip on a flat surface and with the use of a dropper take few drops from the container and put them on the test strip for a certain period of time. You may set the time with the help of a stopwatch. In most kits, the darker the shade the better it is for those who are willing to conceive. Midstream ovulation test are similar to the test strips, the only difference being that the test strip is placed along the urine stream for a certain period of time which usually ranges from 2-4 minutes.

The strips are chemically prepared in such a way that they react only to the particular hormone that is released during ovulation. Though the LH hormone is always present in the body, it takes a toll during ovulation. One must not try to confuse with home pregnancy kits and ovulation test kits as both the cases release different hormones and the test strips are sensitive to some particular hormones. One can prefer any of the two types of ovulation methods depending on the one that is more convenient and highly preferred.

Avoid the intake of some prescription drugs like menotropins that might affect the result. Also avoid drinking lot of water before taking the test. Once you have detected a positive result in your ovulation test, try to have sexual intercourse within the next 48 hours so as to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
